The 6th Annual Live Cardiac Surgical Workshop was conducted on 6th and 7th December 2003, at GKD Auditorium, GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore. The topic of the workshop was Complex Surgical Problems. Dr. Steven F Bolling, with his team from Ann Arbour, Michigan, operated four cases and delivered three lectures –
- Stentless Valves – Free Style
- Mitral Valve Surgery with Maze
- Surgery for Heart Failure
There was a debate in the evening on “Ideal Valve Substitute Today – Tissue or Mechanical?” in hotel Residency at 7.30 pm. Dr. K R Balakrishnan, Sri Ramachandra Hospital, Chennai, Dr.V V Bashi, Miot Hospital, Chennai, Dr. Mukundan Seshadri, Mallya Hospital, Bangalore were in favour of tissue valve substitute and Dr. Vijayshankar, Apollo Hospital, Chennai, Dr. B R Jaganath, Southern Railway Hospital, Chennai, Dr. R Sundar, GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore were in favour of mechanical valve substitute.
